In what turned out to be one of the sunniest (but bitterly coldest) of days, 22 ACE members and their guests gathered for informal meet-ups at Six Flags New England (Agawam, Massachusetts) and Lake Compounce (Bristol, Connecticut) on December 7, 2019.
The day began at Six Flags’ Holiday in the Park, where everyone received an exit pass (good for four people) and those without season passes or memberships received a coupon good for $20.19 admission. Members were also given early entry with priority seating for the brand-new show “Holiday Wishes.”
Although the group photo was planned to immediately follow the show, some attendees wasted no time hitting the operating roller coasters: Batman The Dark Knight, The Riddler Revenge, The Joker and Great Chase, as well as Harley Quinn Spinsanity. With the four-to-an-exit-pass option, groups could get multiple rides together. [Author’s note: the wind chill factor on Dark Knight was a “balmy” 11 degrees.]
Left to their own devices, most attendees enjoyed the lights, sights and sounds of the park and stayed for the tree lighting before departing for Lake Compounce. With the biting cold, many could be found by the s’mores open fire pit.
Only a few brave souls (with thicker blood, apparently) braved the incredibly low temperatures to head down to Lake Compounce for the Holiday Lights event. Unfortunately, the cold prevented some of the rides from operating, but crowds were light, allowing for attendees to participate in all that was offered.
Special thanks to Jennifer McGrath at Six Flags New England and Jerry Brick at Lake Compounce for the special treats and treatment offered at their parks on this informal ACE gathering.
