Doug Robinson, age 49, of Indian Trail, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, May 21. He is survived by his wife, Linda Robinson; father, Harry Robinson; brother, Tommy Robinson; sister, Vicki Muscarello; and brother-in-law, Jospeh Muscarello.
Doug was born to Delaine and Harry Robinson on April 26, 1971. After graduating from Sun Valley High School, Doug entered the workforce. His career included a focus on marketing with an emphasis in graphics. Doug was also educated in all things technology and loved to help others fix whatever problems he could.
In his spare time, Doug took every chance he could to take trips to amusement parks throughout the country. Doug loved to explore new roller coasters with his fellow amusement park friends.
To be in his presence was to laugh at corny jokes, explore new music, and discuss the importance of politics. Doug was loved deeply and will be greatly missed by family and friends around him.
(official obituary)
Doug developed a love for amusement parks after growing up visiting Carowinds. Since 2010 he helped run the website Carowinds Connection, where he documented the park's recent renaissance by tracking construction of Intimidator, Fury 325, and Copperhead Strike. While he loved modern rides (Fury was, of course, a favorite, and he was a big fan of riding Intimidator in the fourth row), his passion was especially driven by the classic and quirky parks and rides. He sought out coasters like Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park and the Coney Island Cyclone, and few rides made him laugh more than Phoenix at Knoebels.
He was a regular at events like the Carolina Coaster Classic at Carowinds (founded by one of his closest friends, the late Max Cannon) and the Phoenix Phall Phunfest at Knoebels, which was an annual highlight. Through ACE and Carowinds Connection he met a close group of friends, and with them he traveled to parks around the country. Most recently he visited Kennywood and was looking forward to attending his third HoliWood Nights at Holiday World this year. Ultimately it was the time spent with friends that was the true highlight of any trip, from the silly inside jokes long run into the ground to late nights around a campfire.
