In the light of a global pandemic, most ACE members weren’t expecting a lot of new-for-2021 announcements this fall. Typically, National Roller Coaster Day every August brings about a flurry of announcements for the next year. This year, expectations of new coasters were low. Members were grateful that many projects on hold were well under construction and should debut next year.

Movie Park Germany announced a new coaster for 2021 as August was coming to a close. This welcome surprise was great news but still didn’t tell the whole story, much like a move trailer.

For starters, no name, no graphics or renderings and very few details were released. What was announced? The manufacturer will be Intamin Amusement Rides. The park reports the ride will be an indoor Multi Dimension Coaster, without going into detail what that exactly entails.

What can visitors expect? The park terms it as “a new family favorite,” which indicates the ride will unlikely be extreme. There will be no inversions. The ride will feature two forward and backward launch sections as well as a 360-degree rotating platform that offers immersive multimedia experiences. Wind and sound will be among the effects.

The coaster will sport 1,745 feet of track and will speed along at 37 mph, statistically placing it in the aforementioned family category. Three trains will seat 12 passengers each.

While that is a glimpse into something new, the theme, name and layout are still under wraps. As an indoor coaster, it should have some additional surprises. ACE members who have visited the park before might be saddened to hear that the new coaster installation will necessitate the removal of the Ice Age Adventure dark ride. That ride building and that of the horror maze Wrong Turn will create more than 40,000 square feet of indoor space.

This new coaster is expected to have track installed as early as October. Once opened, it will join seven other roller coasters at the park including its most recent addition, the new-for-2017 Mack Rides’ Star Trek: Operation Enterprise.
