Throughout the year, many auctions or fundraisers for ACE’s designated funds (Preservation Fund, Archives Fund or National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives) take place.
At the recent park event Lone Star Coasterthon, Six Flags Over Texas offered a wide selection of items for auction. This took place on September 18 for more than 200 enthusiasts attending the event. The park provided a nacho bar, guests speakers and other details of upcoming park additions and improvements. The reception concluded with the extensive auction.
During the gathering in the park’s picnic pavilions, attendees had time to view the items on display. As there were many offered, the park efficiently combined some items into pairs or small groups.

Items up for auction varied between ride parts and older signage. Instead of these items simply being discarded, they became collectible pieces for attendees, and what could have been something perceived to be of little value collectively brought in $2,385 for the National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives. The largest bid was $460 from Davis McCowan of Hurst, Texas. McCowan is the author of the book Six Flags Over Texas: The First Fifty Years.

Signs were the most sought-after items. Many of them were quite large, but others were a little more manageable. Generous ACEers who made winning bids now have interesting conversation pieces in their homes.
