On January 25, the ACE Northern California region hosted a special screening of the ACE documentary “The Legacy of Schwarzkopf” at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (California). Attendees had the option of just watching the film or enjoying a catered lunch in addition to watching the documentary. Thanks to a generous donation from the local region, all attendees enjoyed popcorn during the show.

More than 75 attendees descended on the boardwalk to socialize, watch the movie and then participate in a Q&A session with movie producer/former ACE Northern California Regional Representative Nicholas Laschkewitsch and camera operator/current ACE Northern California Assistant Regional Representative Robert Ingle. The session was spirited and congratulatory. The ACE Merchandise Committee was kind enough to send a small shop’s worth of items, which volunteers sold before, during and after the show.

After the movie screening, attendees did an informal takeover of Giant Dipper, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s 100-year-old roller coaster.

Happy Birthday, Medusa!

On March 15, the Bolliger & Mabillard floorless coaster Medusa celebrated a birthday at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California. A small but enthusiastic group of ACE members were on hand to celebrate the event by singing “Happy Birthday” as the first train of the day was dispatched. Attendees enjoyed multiple rides on the beloved coaster before heading out into the park. The event included a meal deal, the first ride of the day on Medusa and a limited-edition birthday poster for the coaster.

ZOOming Into Spring

On April 12, a group of ACE members headed to Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (San Jose, California) for a special event. Attendees met at the park’s opening for an informal takeover of the Pacific Fruit Express during the park’s first hour of operation. The group then moved over to Danny the Dragon’s entrance, where Regional Representative Liz Tan was thrilled to announce that ACE is making a very generous donation to Danny’s refurbishment! Danny the Dragon was one of two Arrow Development dragon-themed trains; it’s the only one still running today.

The event concluded with a private zoo tour, and attendees were given lunch vouchers.
