SeaWorld San Diego has brought the frozen tundra to Southern California with the debut of Arctic Rescue. The longest and fastest straddle coaster on the West Coast features two snowmobile-themed trains that can hold 16 riders each. The coaster station was built into the old Wild Arctic Simulator ride building and has a unique U-turned track exiting the building and into the first launch. The station also features an aurora borealis overhead while riders are waiting to board.

Once you step onto your snowmobile, you place your feet in the footholds, it features a very comfortable lap bar restraint. Riders sit forward and hold onto the snowmobile handle bars to ride. This position helps the riders to navigate and lean into the twists and turns encountered on their expedition.

There are a total of 3 launches on Arctic Rescue, each one faster than the previous. The first launch propels you out of the station. The second launch starts in a research station tunnel and the third and fastest launch propels you over the highest section of track.

The theming reminds you of being in the Arctic with white (snow) and black ground cover. A UTV is in place ready to transport people or arctic animals in need of help. You can see a warning sign for wind gusts and there is a research station tunnel which houses the second launch. There is also a wonderful nod to the former Wild Arcticsimulator ride in the amidst the outside track. One can almost hear those blades starting up as you pass.
