On March 25, 2019, a woman fell from her seat while riding the El Loco steel coaster at the indoor Adventuredome park within the Circus Circus hotel-casino complex in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was taken to a hospital that afternoon, but neither Clark County nor MGM Resorts International, the owner of Circus Circus, has released details regarding the woman’s condition according to reporting by the Las Vegas Review Journal, including in the weeks since. No further information has been provided about how long she was hospitalized or the seriousness of her injuries. The ride, which was built by S&S Worldwide (and opened in 2013), was closed to the public immediately and was inspected in the days following by a third-party company.

Until further notice, El Loco remains non-operating

In the meantime, the Journal obtained records that indicated the woman was a double amputee (however, it has not been disclosed whether that involved her arms or legs). The El Loco roller coaster uses a lap restraint to secure patrons on the ride. Clark County is working with S&S to determine whether the patron was suitable to ride the coaster and will analyze the restraints, as well as what remedies might be implemented to prevent another similar accident. The investigation into the fall is ongoing.
About two months prior to the woman’s fall, El Loco passed its most recent inspection.
As of this writing, the El Loco coaster remains closed. A park spokesperson was uncertain when it might reopen.
