Travel expands your imagination. Robert Louis Stephenson said, “To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive.” I know when I get behind the wheel of the Prius and start heading down the road for the next destination I have great images already built up from my research into where I’ll be stopping. Sometimes I am too optimistic, which leads to disappointment, but over the years I’ve realized that what I actively do can help create a positive outcome.

While it’s important to pack for the weather, it’s also important to prepare my mind with positive thoughts. I can’t let a ride that’s unavailable or an event that doesn’t work out create a negative situation and interfere with what should be a happy experience. I have to snap out of it and move along to the next anticipated destination.

When I think back to all the past destinations and the friends I’ve gotten to know, I feel blessed to have such a unique galaxy of acquaintances and experiences. My local postmistress always wants to know where I’ve been and where I’m going, and sometimes the answers just tickle her to no end: China, Japan, Alaska, Canada, Knoebels, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Disneyland and soon Maine. It’s a long way from Ducktown, Tennessee (population 475).

But mostly what these travels do is expand my imagination and build great memories. These are priceless gifts that I anticipate gathering every time I start a new adventure. Travel safely when you are next starting out and may you have a wonderful time.

See you in the queue.
