With the park season well under way, it was time for ACE Northern Ohio’s annual visit to Cedar Point for North Coast Con 2019. This year’s event took place on July 14, 2019, a beautiful summer Sunday on Lake Erie.
A total of 67 members and their guests arrived early that morning for registration and early morning ERT on Maverick, the park’s double-launched Intamin masterpiece, and surprise morning ERT on Magnum XL-200, the world’s first hypercoaster, which is celebrating 30 years in 2019. Once ERT concluded, guests were treated to early entry privileges, during which most lined up for first rides on Steel Vengeance. After the park opened, informal takeovers were scheduled on the Cedar Creek Mine Ride, another classic Arrow coaster celebrating 50 years this season, and the aforementioned Magnum. Later in the day, the group gathered for a photo near Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island, this season’s new interactive attraction. While on the island, guests were encouraged to participate in its challenges and adventures. In the afternoon, event attendees were invited for VIP seating for the park’s Snoopy live entertainment show, Beach Blanket Beagle. Finally, everyone regrouped at the Lakeside Pavilion for a delicious meal of bratwursts, burgers, a variety of sides and dessert.

Throughout the day, attendees were challenged to participate in a selfie scavenger hunt. Players were given a list of items with which to take a selfie and then post to either their Twitter or their Instagram accounts using a personalized hashtag. Items included the park’s two ACE plaques, the park’s largest Schwarzkopf ride (Giant Wheel) and Top Thrill Dragster as a train was cresting the ride’s 420-foot-tall tower. Winners received a Cedar Point gift card and a prize pack of a Forbidden Frontier collector’s coin, a Steel Vengeance writing pad and a Forbidden Frontier writing set.

Many thanks go to all who helped out with this wonderful event: Tony Clark, Lori Davis and Jessica Jordan at Cedar Point; Northern Ohio assistant regional reps Jimmy and Cassie Titko for organizing the scavenger hunt; and assistant regional rep Susan Shick for taking care of morning registration.
