Sporting a new name for ACE Midwest’s annual visit to Indiana Beach in Monticello, the rechristened Hoosier HurriCon welcomed 33 ACE members and guests on Saturday, July 20. The event started with two hours of ERT. The first hour featured Steel Hawg and Hoosier Hurricane. Hoosier Hurricane ran pretty well for its 25th anniversary, although the first drop could use some love. The next hour attendees rode Cornball Express and Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain.

A lot of off-season work was noticeable on Lost Coaster. All of the effects were working for the first time in years: the skeleton in the treasure chest that greets riders on their way up the elevator lift, the bear growling as they zip through the mountain and the train that blows its whistle near the end of the ride. All of these effects made Lost Coaster a more enjoyable ride.

Walking through Indiana Beach, as in prior years, attendees could easily see improvements to the property. The ballroom where the meal took place was newly renovated with fresh paint and a new stage area and sound system, as the park is hosting special events throughout the season.

The annual Fascination tournament was a big hit with attendees once again. The tournament is held each year during the hottest time of the day in the park's air-conditioned Fascination room, which provided a nice break from the heat. Indiana Beach offered five prize buckets to the winners: Brenda Gardner, Josh Parker, Bob Redman, Lilly Parker and Jennifer Valentine.

Informal ride takeovers happened on the Shafer Queen, Dodgem and Water Swings. Indiana Beach also provided free admission to Dr. Frankenstein's Castle, its walkthrough haunted house.

Activities ended with a dinner of roasted chicken, hot dogs and great side dishes.

Thanks go to Kate Huff at Indiana Beach for working hard to make our regional event a special time for all who came.
