A gathering of ACE members can only be enhanced by hospitality and fun! Six Flags America in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, delivered another memorable annual Celebrate America event with a full day of activities.

Kicking off the morning was ERT on Roar and Firebird, the former Apocalypse: The Last Stand coaster with new Bolliger & Mabillard floorless trains. Repeat rides were plentiful with two-train operation on both coasters. As park opening neared, many ventured to Gotham City for an informal takeover of the first rides of the day on Superman: Ride of Steel.

After an informal takeover of the Chop Six patio for a lunch meetup, all headed over for a quick group photo before a question-and-answer session with the park’s management team. Thanks to representatives from operations, marketing and food service plus the park president himself, we enjoyed the chance to hear about careers in the industry as well as insights into developments at the park and a few teasers about the future.

Following the management team, Regional Representative Elizabeth Ringas introduced the Mid-Atlantic team of volunteers, showered attendees with door prizes and hosted an auction for Apocalypse signage and a few park banners that raised $215 for ACE’s various funds. For the entertainment of attendees, six ACE members ate it out in a funnel cake-eating contest, which was won by Nigel Monroe, who consumed three funnel cakes in five minutes. Sam Marks, ACE member and frequent Six Flags America visitor for many years, hosted a history tour of the park, sharing insights and memories of the transformations the park has undergone.

Before two final informal takeovers, all enjoyed reserved seating at the Battle of the Badlands Stunt Show. The event came to a close with evening ERT on Superman: Ride of Steel and Joker's Jinx — two fantastic after-dark rides at the park. A huge thank you to Six Flags America for its hospitality!
