The following parks have announced that they will not operate for the remaining 2020 season:

  • Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, Phoenix, Arizona. According to its website and social media accounts, all season passes and pre-purchased tickets will be extended for the 2021 season.
  • Valleyfair, Shakopee, Minnesota. Annual pass holders and those with 2020 tickets can sort things out through the FAQ section of the park’s website.
  • Kings Dominion, Doswell, Virginia, will remain closed for the remainder of 2020 because of challenges surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release.
  • Carowinds, Charlotte, North Carolina, will stay closed for the rest of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • California’s Great America, in Santa Clara, will remain shuttered for the rest of the year.

Early closings and event cancellations:

  • Worlds of Fun, Kansas City, Missouri, will close for the season after Labor Day weekend owing to COVID-19 uncertainties. The last day of operation this year will be Monday, September 7. Oceans of Fun will remain closed.
  • Knott’s Scary Farm 2020. The 48th Halloween Haunt separate-admission event at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, will not return this season, as the park awaits COVID-19 guidelines for safely reopening.
  • Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio, has canceled its traditional HalloWeekends event for the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic. Park officials announced HalloWeekends will instead be replaced by something different this year. A new “Tricks and Treats Fall Fest” will be introduced starting September 12. The event will take the place of HalloWeekends for 2020 only and has been designed with unique entertainment, food and activities for all ages. This event will enable better social distancing and capacity management.
