ACE News takes a look at a handful of coasters currently under construction. Each has its own attributes worth noting. Take a sneak peek at the new Hurricane Roller Coaster at Suzhou Amusement Land Forest World — now there’s a mouthful! — (Huqiu, Suzhou, China); Tron, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom (Buena Park, Florida); Jersey Devil Coaster, Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson, New Jersey); Kondaa, Walibi Belgium (Wavre, Belgium); Monster, Gröna Lund (Stockholm, Sweden); and The Ride to Happiness, Plopsaland De Panne (Adinkerke-De Panne, West Flanders, Belgium).

Hurricane Roller Coaster

Be sure to note the inline roll that follows the dive from the launched coaster’s top hat element. That maneuver should be taken at incredible speed, which should provide some notable intensity to this multi-inversion thriller. Five inversions — a zero-G roll, cobra roll, Immelmann and vertical loop — are wrapped in the tight layout. The height of the top hat element surpasses 203 feet. The coaster is a product of Mack Rides.

A trip to Belgium this year offers two new rides:

Kondaa

This Intamin megacoaster is expected to open in April. Standing at 164 feet and running for 3,937 feet. Kondaa’s top speed of 70 mph. This coaster is expected to sizzle with negative Gs and will feature a noninverting cobra roll, an outwardly banked airtime hill and an 80-degree first drop.

The Ride to Happiness

As noted elsewhere in ACE News, this double-launch coaster from Mack Rides will receive a cosmic makeover because of a partnership with Tomorrowland. Five inversions are included in the Xtreme Spinning Coaster (such as seen at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, Time Traveler).

Jersey Devil Coaster

The third installation of a Raptor track coaster from Rocky Mountain Construction takes the original installation taller, faster and longer. Trains on this ride will be 12 cars long instead of eight. Airtime looks abundant.

Monster

Always tight on space, Gröna Lund has ingeniously found ways to weave new coasters into the park. This Bolliger & Mabillard inverted coaster redefines “being shoehorned” into place. The underground station has a New York subway vibe, and one of the ride’s supports actually pierces into a new Bavarian beer house restaurant.

TRON Lightcycle Run

The futuristic canopy covering the white track that stretches from the enclosed ride portion is well under way. This motorcycle-style coaster from Vekoma is eagerly anticipated, in part owing to the cool indoor lighting on the ride. Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom are celebrating a 50th anniversary this year.
