After its closure during 2020, Lightning Rod has reopened to the public after the re-tracking of two-thirds of the ride with IBOX track by the original manufacturer, Rocky Mountain Construction.
According to Dollywood’s Pete Owens, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for The Dollywood Company, the completed work will offer guests a smoother, more stable ride that still features that fast, out of control ride that guests love from Lightning Rod.
Lightning Rod isn’t the only coaster that received significant winter maintenance, all with guest satisfaction in mind. In addition to track work on Thunderhead, which was completed since the park closed in early January, Mystery Mine and Blazing Fury received significant maintenance as well.
