In just a mere decade, Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) has become a household name among coaster fans. “This Is How We Roll” is a new documentary produced by Coaster Studios and its driving force, Taylor Bybee. In production for two years, the 80-minute film shows the roller coaster manufacturer from its humble beginnings to when it became an industry rock star.
Now available to view via Vimeo, viewers can opt to watch once or pay a bit more to own their own copy.

As RMC’s story unfolds, creator Fred Grubb goes from erecting and refurbishing wooden roller coasters and attractions to innovating new ways to reduce coaster maintenance. Once RMC was paired with designer Alan Schilke, the challenge became to see who would be the first taker. As the documentary progresses, Six Flags Over Texas steps up to the plate, and the first wood-track-to-steel-track conversion (in the new millennium) starts an unstoppable demand of dramatic new rides, the likes of which have never been seen before.

Throughout the film, friends of ACE from Silver Dollar City, Dollywood, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and more are seen, as are ACEers themselves. Texans Tim Baldwin, Kris Rowberry and David Lipnicky appear in the film, as do enthusiasts-to-engineers Anne Irvine and Brian Ondrey. But the personal stories from the RMC team are what really drives the documentary. It’s full of good vibes.
The world premiere was appropriately held in Idaho, just up the road from the RMC facility at Silverwood Theme Park, where Grubb got his start in the business.

As a pre-night perk to those attending Lone Star Coasterthon, ACEers had their first chance to view the documentary at a southern premiere a week later on September 17. ACE Editor Tim Baldwin served as emcee for the evening. The viewing was held at Six Flags Headquarters, which made for an even more interesting evening. A glimpse of that evening can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_XgXnC6Tzc.
Two more live viewings were held in Cincinnati and Orlando prior to the October 8 public release.
The end product of the film is extraordinary. The interviews, the information, the soundtrack and the editing are splendidly done. Filmmaker Bybee along with producer Sarah Anderson, cinematographer Scott Schaffer and composer John Pasternak have created a film worthy of multiple views. Coaster fans will love this film.
