Guess which state will be the first to host two single-rail coasters? That’s right, it’s California, home of many firsts and record breakers. Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia, California) has announced it will debut its 20th coaster, Wonder Woman Flight of Courage, the fifth of this type of coaster from the acclaimed Rocky Mountain Construction. This addition makes Magic Mountain the undisputed coaster champ of the world — it has four coasters in its kids’ section alone — as well as having an incredible variety of coasters, styles and manufacturers (and a beloved ACE Roller Coaster Landmark).

Although similar in profile to Jersey Devil Coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson, New Jersey), this new coaster will — true to Magic Mountain form — be a record breaker, edging out its East Coast counterpart’s height at 131 feet with a length of 3,300 feet (although that extra length seems to be in the runout at the end). It will, however, have the same top speed as its predecessor of 58 mph and the three inversions from Jersey Devil Coaster: a raven dive, a zero-G roll and a 180-degree stall. Maintaining the Wonder Woman theme for this type of ride at Six Flags parks (set by the more compact and twisty Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas [San Antonio, Texas]), this will be Magic Mountain’s second ride to be themed to the storied Amazon warrior. The other is Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth, a Round-Up flat ride.

Wonder Woman Flight of Courage will be in the DC Universe area of the park, making its superhero theme more fitting than such-named rides in other parks. Owing to the placement of the ride, the station for the former Intamin Zac Spin, Green Lantern: First Flight, will be repurposed for this new ride. Also, because of the ride’s placement next to the stand-up coaster, Riddler’s Revenge, there is a possibility of some thrilling interaction between the two rides. It’s time to put your superhero mettle to the test!

The ride is slated to debut in the summer of 2022.
