On Saturday, October 16, more than 120 ACE members and their guests arrived at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio for the ACE South Central region’s Fright Bash event. At check in, everyone was given VIP all-access passes for the day. These incredible passes granted all attendees unlimited Flash Pass entry all day and Express entry into every haunted house in the evening.

The day started with a group photo on the newly arrived first piece of track for Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger, Fiesta Texas’ spectacular new Bolliger & Mabillard dive coaster being constructed for the park’s 30th anniversary. This was immediately followed by the first ride of the day on Iron Rattler.

As the park opened to guests, attendees were taken on a special construction tour hosted by Park President Jeffrey Seibert. He walked tour attendees through what will be the site for the new ride. Although one of the park’s amphitheaters was demolished to make way for the new attraction, Siebert explained that the backstage building that housed the show’s dressing rooms is being preserved to become an indoor queue that will tell of Dr. Diabolical’s fiendish plans, preparing riders for what they are about to experience.

Following the construction tour, participants had an opportunity for a walking tour along the park’s railroad (don’t worry, the train was not operating). This was the first time ever that any group had been invited to have this experience. This walking tour gave everyone a chance to take pictures of their favorite coasters from a whole new angle, an up-close picture of the park’s iconic waterfalls or a first-ever photo from inside the railroad tunnel through the cliff walls.

Following the railroad tour, attendees were free to experience the park at their leisure. Many took advantage of the special reserved seating provided for the park’s shows “Terror at Teatro,” “The Slay Belles” and “Wicked Mixx Vol. 2,” or they used their unlimited Flash Pass to ride the park’s many attractions.

At dinner, the Fright Fest’s specially created character, Shadow, made a surprise appearance, posing for pictures. Then, during Siebert’s discussion of Fiesta Texas’ upcoming 30th anniversary plans, Dr. Diabolical herself interrupted to promote her new machine. Following dinner, guests enjoyed reserved seating at “The Awakening,” where the creatures of Fright Fest make their evening appearance before heading out into the park’s scare zones.

As darkness fell, guests enjoyed the park’s many scare zones, express entry into the park’s four haunted houses or those special nighttime rides on their favorite coasters. Then it was time to experience the park’s signature Fright Fest closing shows, “Dr. Diabolical’s Monster Mash Bash” and the amazing fireworks show, “Frightful Finale.” As a final treat, ERT was provided on Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster and the newly reimagined Poltergeist, an appropriate choice to close the event.
