Known well by members in both the ACE New Jersey and ACE South Central regions, Ed McInerney had enjoyed living in both Texas and New Jersey. Owing to medical issues he suffered from for a couple of months, he passed away after the ailments took over faster than he could fight them. McInerney joined ACE in 1993.

Ed was one of the first enthusiasts I ever met, at the very first Coaster Celebration in ‘96. He greeted me with a smile and the nicest hello, and we have been friends ever since. Ed was the kindest soul with the best sense of humor of anyone I have ever known. Love him. He will be missed.

While I knew and liked Ed when he lived in New Jersey, our friendship started to quickly grow after he moved to San Antonio. As the ACE South Central region hosts a coaster event almost every month, we got a chance to ride coasters together most months. However, we started to spend more and more time just talking about varied topics that had nothing to do with parks. Our in-depth discussions would span history, veterans issues, family, world cultures, human rights, national defense, religion, politics, music/entertainment, civics, education and more. By 2019, we sometimes would lose track of time as our potpourri of effortless topical discussions at ACE events would sometimes exceed two hours. This would surprise us, but we didn’t care as it was just two friends enjoying each other’s company beyond our common love of coasters and parks. I know I am not the only one in Texas that feels it is not fair we lost Ed just as he became one of our favorite members. However, I am glad I had a few short years to get to know Ed long enough that he quickly became one of my favorite reasons for coming to ACE events… and making me a better person in the process.

Ed and I officially met in Texas during Coaster Con at Six Flags Over Texas. We were touring Cowboys Stadium with Patty Koch, Joe Wilson, Harold Davis and Geoff Peterson. We had just a great time together bonding over our distaste for the Dallas team. After all, Ed was a diehard New York Giants fan. We became very close very quickly and spent the following years traveling together and sharing life. He will be dearly missed.

Every time I saw Ed in the park I was greeted with a huge smile, and I knew it was going to be a good day. We'd spend at least a few minutes talking about anything from coasters to baseball. Every conversation seemed to pick up right where the last left off. I'll miss our talks. Ed was one of a kind.

Ed was a kind soul and a joy to be around.
