Long-time ACE member Gregory James Legowski (51) sadly passed away suddenly on Friday, January 7, 2022.
He is survived by his much-loved wife, Nicole Payne Legowski; parents, Edward and Karen (Kaminski) Legowski; in-laws, David and Darlene Payne; sisters, Kristen (Bill) Farkos and Elizabeth (Rob Guzman) Legowski; and brothers, Adam (Emma Storch) Legowski and Matt Legowski.
Greg was born in New Jersey and resided in the Pittsburgh area for many years. He was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and was a software engineer at Google.
Greg was an ACE member for several decades. He attended the 2001 ACE convention and the U.K. week of the 2002 ACE European Coaster Odyssey. He also attended several other ACE national events in the early to mid-2000s along with numerous ACE regional events throughout his time as an ACE member. Greg enjoyed memorable roller coaster trips with his friends to international destinations like Japan and Germany along with continental locations, including the Bay Area and the Pacific Northwest. Over time he slowed down his coaster travels, but he still attended an occasional KennyKon or Phoenix Phall Phunfest.
Greg was a fan of computer technology, so it is no surprise that he met many of his long-time roller coaster enthusiast friends online. He was one of the earliest posters on the popular usenet group rec.roller-coaster and started participating on CoasterBuzz a little less than a decade later. Greg will always be remembered as a very likeable and loyal friend, easy to talk to and someone with a sophisticated sense of humor. People who shared any of his other interests were always in for a treat of a conversation, many of which were shared while waiting in a coaster queue.
Some of Greg’s other interests were ice hockey (New Jersey Devils), reading novels, sci-fi, music, theater, travel and enjoying good food and drink. In recent years, while Greg’s coaster riding waned, he and Nicole were always game for a fun afternoon or evening at one of Pittsburgh’s highly regarded dining establishments with friends.
Greg was taken from us way too soon, and he will be sorely missed by all of his friends and the coaster community alike.
