My mother, Nancy Merevick, passed away on March 26, 2022. She started ACE as a “bench rider” when she accompanied me to ACE events in the early 1980s and was incredibly happy to hold loose items for any ACE members attending the event. Even with a great fear of heights, she quickly became an avid rider and was loved by many in our club. I will always remember Betty Garrett and my mom riding the middle seat during ERT for American Eagle at Six Flags Great America and never getting out of that seat until the ERT session was over.

She never complained — even in the rain riding Hercules at Dorney Park, in the snow riding The Beast at Kings Island and in the excessive heat riding Desperado at Buffalo Bills — and spread positive feelings each and every time.

My mom was invited to the preview of Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America, and I was invited as her guest. She enjoyed sharing her love of roller coasters to the press or anyone who was interested.

Her last trip was to Dollywood, and she rode a scooter for the first time and enjoyed every minute.

Even during chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she always told nurses and doctors about American Coaster Enthusiasts and all the roller coasters she experienced and all wonderful people she met and called friends.

She asked me if her ashes could be spread from the back seat of a roller coaster. My mom will be missed but always remembered for all of the happiness she shared with everyone she met.
