ACE on the Mountain took place on Saturday, July 20, at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park (Glenwood Springs, Colorado) and hosted 14 attendees primarily from Colorado. For many, this was their first time visiting the unique mountain top theme park.

The day began with check-in at the base of the mountain, and attendees then rode the gondola to the park prior to its opening to the general public. The group was treated to behind-the-scenes tours on Alpine Coaster and Defiance. These tours were led by the park’s operations director, Patrick Macfarlane, and allowed attendees access to areas typically off limits. Macfarlane used this opportunity to give the group inside information and fascinating facts about the park and its coasters.

A behind-the-scenes tour by Operations Director Patrick Macfarlane included access to areas not typically seen by the general public, including Defiance’s maintenance area.

Following the behind-the-scenes tours, attendees were able to watch a sneak peek viewing of a documentary covering Defiance. This included the story of how Defiance came to be, the unique challenges of building a coaster on top of a mountain and information on the operations and maintenance of the ride. The viewing concluded with a Q&A session with Macfarlane that enabled attendees to ask questions about the park, the rides and plans for the future. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park also provided everyone with gift bags containing park swag. Eight of the attendees also won prizes in the door prize raffle, which included ACE merchandise and tickets to other theme parks in the region.

Following these exclusive events, ACEers were free to enjoy all of the thrills the park has to offer (although Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park includes only 12 rides, a third of them are roller coasters). In addition to these attractions, the park also features tours of underground caverns, scenic views and larger-than-life giant trolls. ACE on the Mountain ended up being an exciting and unique experience for all who attended.
