On Saturday, March 1, the phrase "laissez les bons temps rouler" (“let the good times roll”) truly came to life as two enthusiast groups united for a thrilling celebration of roller coasters. It was Mardi Gras Festival time at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio), where nearly 100 members and guests of ACE joined forces with the Melanin Coaster Network (MCN) to soak up the vibrant Mardi Gras festivities and savor the exciting entertainment Fiesta Texas offers during this annual event.

The day kicked off with attendees enjoying early access to the park’s legendary Iron Rattler, from Rocky Mountain Construction. After those exhilarating first rides, everyone dispersed to revel in the perks that came with their event badges, including unlimited Flash Pass access to all rides and entry to the exclusive VIP lounge. Meanwhile, those opting to stay grounded took in the park's unique Mardi Gras entertainment.

A rare opportunity soon presented itself, as attendees were granted access to the clifftop overlooking the park. This behind-the-scenes tour offered a peek into unseen areas of the Roadrunner Express, Iron Rattler, the fireworks launch zone and the clifftop with its breathtaking view of Superman Krypton Coaster.

Attendees were given a tour of the park’s maintenance area, where work was being performed on coaster vehicles such as those from Boomerang Coast to Coaster and Batman The Ride.

Here, the dedicated Fiesta Texas maintenance team shared insights into how the coaster trains are kept in top shape, where they’re serviced and the meticulous efforts required to keep everything running smoothly.

Despite the early March date, the warmth of the day was perfect for enjoying reserved seating at Fiesta Texas’ newest live indoor show, “Voodoo Dolls.” The mystical troupe enchanted everyone with its voodoo-inspired songs and choreography. After the show, a lucky group of attendees joined the park’s Mardi Gras parade, while others lined the route to admire the unique floats crafted by Kern Studios. It was hard to tell who was having more fun, those lining the parade route hoping to catch their share of brightly colored beads or the special guests from ACE and MCN onboard the floats throwing them.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas Park President Jeffrey Siebert spoke to the crowd following dinner and gave details on its new DC Universe section featuring Shazam! Tower of Eternity.

As the parade excitement simmered down, it was time for an authentic Louisiana-style dinner featuring gumbo, boudin, dirty rice and beignets. Park President Jeffrey Siebert addressed the gathering, sharing updates about the park, including one that happened that day: the grand opening of the brand-new DC Universe. The new area comes complete with three new rides: Cyborg Cyber Revolution, Shazam! Tower of Eternity and Metropolis Transit Authority (a monorail-style attraction, albeit with two rails), all manufactured by Zamperla. Even older rides enjoyed a facelift, with fresh themes featuring Batgirl, Poison Ivy and The Penguin. Siebert announced that feedback on these new attractions had been overwhelmingly positive, and as a surprise, all three new rides would be added to that night’s ERT session.

Following Siebert’s address, leaders from both enthusiast groups took the stage. Regional Representative Jason Knutson, one of ACE’s newest honorary members, and Martina “Prime” Moore Jr., founder of MCN, greeted the audience. Both groups thanked those in attendance, and Moore spoke passionately about his mission of “bridging the gap by bringing people together.” It was a great opportunity for the two enthusiast groups to come together and create fellowship within our community.

As the park closed to the general public, the much-anticipated ERT commenced. Attendees relished an hour of exclusive ride time on Iron Rattler, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger and the newly introduced rides in the DC Universe area. Those who ventured to the Metropolis Transit Authority were treated to evening drinks, snacks and a special journey with Siebert.

All good things must come to an end, including the 2025 Fiesta Fest. The ACE South Central region extended heartfelt thanks to Siebert and the entire Six Flags Fiesta Texas team for yet another spectacular event. ACE eagerly looks forward to its next event at Six Flags Fiesta Texas!
