Prospectors have long been obsessed with the pursuit of gold, seeking their fortune in the gleaming nuggets hidden deep in the hills. In a similar fashion, roller coaster enthusiasts are forever chasing the thrill of the next big ride. Well, folks, Six Flags Over Georgia (Austell) is about to strike it rich in 2025 with the debut of its new roller coaster — Georgia Gold Rusher. Located in the suburbs of Atlanta, this exciting addition makes Six Flags Over Georgia a must-visit destination in the Southeast United States.

Georgia Gold Rusher opened to the media on March 13, and it’s already causing quite a stir. This new roller coaster is the world’s first Ultra Surf model, built by Intamin Amusement Rides, the renowned Swiss manufacturer headquartered in Schaan, Liechtenstein. Let’s dive into the golden details of this thrilling ride:
Quick Stats for Georgia Gold Rusher:
Length: 590 feet
Height: 144 feet
Speed: 60 mph

The coaster’s ride vehicles resemble those used on Intamin’s earlier Surfrider models.

At first glance, these numbers might not seem as jaw-dropping as some of today’s biggest coasters, but the stats don’t tell the whole story. Those who’ve ridden Intamin’s previous Surfrider models (on which the Ultra Surf is based), such as those found at Nickelodeon Universe in Minneapolis, Minnesota, or East Rutherford, New Jersey, may think they know what to expect. However, this is no ordinary coaster.

The coaster’s launch is enhanced with water effects, paying homage to the site’s previous tenant — a Shoot-the-Chutes-style ride that was removed a few years ago.

Uncovering the Gold: The Ride Experience
This is where the gold is hidden. The Ultra Surf coaster doesn’t just follow in the footsteps of its predecessors — it redefines the old experience. The ride begins with an exhilarating punchy launch, hurling riders over a thrilling bunny hop that launches them skyward. Then, just when they think they’ve reached the peak, they're launched in the opposite direction, gaining speed through linear synchronous motor launches. These launches will have riders feeling the full force, especially as they soar over the bunny hop again, where they'll experience a pop of ejector airtime that takes them even higher!
As they reach the top of the spike, they’ll find themselves in an unexpected, exhilarating spin — facing outward as each end of the train is designed to rotate the passengers. As they come back down at a speed of 60 mph, they’ll be screaming over the bunny hill once more, this time with a massive airtime pop. And don’t worry — thanks to the ultracomfortable seats, the ride accommodates riders of all sizes, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the thrills, no matter their build.

Park guests and coaster enthusiasts alike will be delighted to see attention to detail not typically featured at Six Flags parks in recent years.

A New Era for Six Flags Over Georgia
One of the key figures behind the revitalization of Six Flags Over Georgia is the park’s new president, Greg Fuller. His passion for creating a fun, safe and beautifully maintained park is evident throughout. Six Flags Over Georgia is the second oldest park in the Six Flags chain, and under Fuller’s leadership, it’s clear that the park is being brought into a new golden age.
During this author’s conversation with him, it became abundantly clear that Fuller’s vision is transforming the park. Not only does Georgia Gold Rusher feature impressive theming that recalls the best aspects of Cedar Fair parks, but the entire area surrounding the ride has been enhanced. A new creek and a breathtaking waterfall near the coaster bring a serene, natural beauty to the ride’s surroundings. Everywhere one looks, the park feels fresh, new, and — most importantly — loved.
