Riding the Cyclone is a summer tradition at Coney Island in New York City, but some riders got a little more than they bargained for when the ride malfunctioned. On Thursday, August 22, riders had to be rescued from the world-famous coaster after it stopped on the lift hill.

According to Luna Park representatives, "The Coney Island Cyclone was stopped due to a damaged chain sprocket in the motor room and is currently undergoing repairs. We will reopen the Cyclone roller coaster when the repair is complete and the ride passes inspection."

There is currently no timeline for a re-opening of the Cyclone.
