Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio, representatives have announced its newest ride, Top Thrill 2, has been shut down for the remainder of 2024. The park announced the closure Friday, more than three months after the ride was first closed for a “mechanical modification.”

The ride opened on May 4, but just eight days later, Cedar Point announced to guests that the coaster needed to close.

“Unfortunately, the manufacturer will not be able to complete the modifications needed in time to reopen the coaster in 2024. We are extremely disappointed that we cannot open the ride this season, but remain committed to delivering a reliable, consistent and unparalleled coaster experience for our guests in 2025,” reads a statement from Cedar Point. “In the meantime, please accept our sincere apology for the disappointment and inconvenience.”

It is unclear what “modifications” need to be made to make the ride safe, but Cedar Point has repeatedly said the ride’s manufacturer is working to get the ride operating smoothly.
