I feel confident that after more than 40 years, I can unequivocally and proudly say that ACE is the premier amusement park enthusiast group on the planet. As evidenced by parks inviting us to participate in their roller coaster openings, this club is an enthusiastic amusement industry influencer as a result of the varied knowledge and skills of the many members of ACE. Another example of our impact is the questions that are probably familiar to most of ACE: “What’s the best roller coaster?” “Where are you going next?” “How many coasters have you ridden?” “Have you been to Cedar Point?” “How do you pronounce Knoebels?” and, “Did Kenny Rogers own Kennywood?” All questions that demonstrate the breadth of the club’s collective knowledge.
While ACE is easily recognizable, I think as a social group we could do much better distinguishing the individual accomplishments of our members. In light of that, a dedicated email address was created, LifeEvents@aceonline.org for everyone to report and share important milestones in their individual lives. A few examples include welcoming a new ACE baby to the family, celebrating a new job, accomplishing a personal goal, or, sadly, saying goodbye to an ACEer who has passed away. These milestones will be communicated to the entire community in a number of ways so ACE can celebrate our members’ individual achievements.
But this is only the beginning. In June, a proposed reorganization of the Executive Committee will be voted on to create a department dedicated to the membership. Recruiting, retaining and celebrating ACE members will be the mission of this new director heading up the department. We’ve done a great job getting recognition for the club in general, and now it’s time to better recognize the individuals who make this club GREAT!
