In Ohio, spring is always the time of year for celebrations and new beginnings. Spring Warm-Up at Scene75 Columbus (Ohio) met both of these criteria perfectly as the members and guests of ACE Eastern Great Lakes gathered to enjoy an afternoon of frivolity. This event, on Saturday, April 17, was very low-key and allowed the 34 registered participants access to all that this huge family entertainment center had to offer. Attendees from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and West Virginia were welcomed to experience the largest of five Scene75 locations in the United States. Several folks indicated that they were attending their very first ACE event as new members. The event’s registration included a preloaded $35 Game Card to be used for the plethora of games and attractions and a light lunch consisting of pizza and unlimited soft drinks in a designated party room. Each participant also received a complementary Scene75 water bottle as a gift for attending the event.

The festivities began with a group informal takeover time (ITOT) in the Spin Zone. These round bumper “cars” feature an inner tube design and handles with which the driver navigates one of the eight cars forward, backward or spinning, around the tight space. If an opposing driver strikes a “Spin Zone” target located on the bumper section, the affected car will randomly spin for several seconds before returning to action. The light package and loud music add to the enjoyment of this attraction.

Before meeting as a group in the party room for lunch, many attendees wandered toward the compact coaster called Nuclear Rush. This figure-eight VISA coaster used the space efficiently and gave riders an adrenaline rush as it spun traversing the track. Participants were treated to several trips around the circuit during their ride. Also available to the crowd during this time was a 12-seat, 35-foot Moser drop tower, two blacklight mini-golf courses, laser and light tag rooms, an inflatable amusement area, an indoor batting cage simulator, a 4-D motion theater and a varied assortment of arcade and video games. After lunch, a lively group photo was taken in front of Nuclear Rush to commemorate the day, with regional representative Jimmy Titko acting as the official event photographer.

The event ended with a whole group ITOT on the popular Indoor Go-Karts. Each driver received a pit pass showing the time to return to the track for their time trial. Each group of 10 racers on the Thunder Volt Speedway experienced hairpin turns and straightaway speeds of up to 20 mph. The cars were quiet and environmentally friendly, as they used zero-emission technology without sacrificing speed and maneuverability. Each race was timed to the 1,000th of a second to determine the fastest speed racer. The participants left the pit area of the track with smiles and congratulatory comments to the other drivers.

While the official gathering time came to an end after the Go-Karts, many attendees stayed for a while to continue enjoying the amenities. This event was a great way to start the season in Ohio. Many positive comments were heard throughout the day.
