After 25 years, the often-closed trackless roller coaster is retiring at The Great Escape, Queensbury, New York. Alpine Bobsled will take its last runs September 4.

Originally built in 1984 at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, it was moved from 1989 to 1995 to Six Flags Great America in Chicago. It opened in 1998 at Great Escape. Over the course of 25 years, it has not been without its challenges -- namely, even small amounts of rain and high humidity require the ride to close.
The ride was intended to imitate a bobsledder’s race, inspired by the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.

With a height of 64 feet, Alpine Bobsled reaches a top speed of 35 mph as it moves down the 1,500-foot course. The whole ride takes about 90 seconds.
The existing space is being reconsidered for other amenities and announcements for next year will be made soon, but no indication was made whether a new ride would be among those amenities.
