While the month of October can signify different things for everyone, such as the beginning of fall or start of the holiday season, for roller coaster enthusiasts it means one thing — haunted attractions! With this in mind, ACE Northern California members were excited to be invited to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (Vallejo, California) on October 15, 2022, and experience Fright Fest like never before.

Each year, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom hosts its haunted event, Fright Fest, throughout the month of October. This year, at the ACE Fright Fest Spooktacular, attendees had the opportunity to go behind the scenes of a Fright Fest attraction to learn how it actually works. This was one perk at this first-time event. They had plenty of time to ride roller coasters, explore the park and attend the actual haunted event.

After arriving at the park, attendees were treated to 30 minutes of exclusive ride time on the new Sidewinder Safari roller coaster. This was an extra special experience since ACE members were able to tour the construction site of the ride earlier in April. Attendees then had the opportunity to attend a Q&A session with Manager Charles Laureano, who had a large part in the creation of Sidewinder Safari. Laureano was happy to answer questions from attendees about how the ride was created and about Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in general.

Following the Q&A, park entertainment supervisors Meganne Watts and Shyanne Stever led attendees through a tour of the Sulfur City haunted attraction, once with the lights on and again with the lights off and all special effects activated. This allowed them to gain a better understanding of how a haunted attraction operates. Both Watts and Stever did an excellent job explaining the story behind each room and the attraction as a whole.

After exploring the park and riding some rides, attendees were treated to a picnic grove meal. It was then time for the Fright Fest event to kick off with the Creepshow Freakshow.

Everyone who attended the Spooktacular had a fantastic time and was appreciative of everyone from the park who was involved in making the event happen. Special thanks went to Jordan Bishop, Raquel Basco, Isabella Vellos and Marc Merino for helping make the event such a success! ACE Northern California members look forward to the next time they have the opportunity to visit Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
